There are different types of floors used on football fields. Among these varieties, the most common ones are the type called synthetic or artificial grass. Artificial grass creates a non-slippery and flexible surface on the ground, preventing athletes from injuries. Therefore, both amateur and professional athletes can demonstrate maximum performance on the field.
Artificial grass may not be a natural product but it is not much different from it. More importantly it does not pose any threat to human health. As it is not a natural product, synthetic turf does not contain any insect or pest problems. It also offers advantages of use since it is easy to organize, maintain and clean. The main areas of use are fields for commercial purposes, schools and gardens.
Artificial turf, which is very similar to natural grass, can be used in all areas. It is increasingly preferred in many areas since it does not require a special maintenance and cleaning and best part it is easier to maintain than natural grass. Another advantage is it can last for 10 years.
Application Steps of Artificial Grass in Fields
When applying artificial grass in fields, the first step is planning, which includes determining the size and quality of the ground. Therefore, ground excavation, which brings the ground to the zero elevation is highly important during this process. And then a foundation is dug on the ground for the beam form. The dimensions for which the surrounding beam concrete is determined are also engaged (tied) around the field. A special geotextile (permeable fabrics capable of separation, filtering, strengthening, protection or drainage when used with soil) is bundled to the excavated drainage channels where the water pour.

The process of bundling can be briefly defined as wrapping the building foundation as a whole with a membrane layer. Later the drainage pipes are laid and connected to the main drainage. The excavated drainage pipes can be filled with filter material in sufficient shape and ratio.
After the bundling and filling is over, respectively crushed stone number 3 (Gravel 3-3,5cm dimension) and number 1(Gravel 1-1,20cm) are poured and compressed with a roller. And then, the fluctuations or corrugations are blocked and prevented. As a flat base is the first condition of a good artificial based sports field, the floor is compressed until a flat ground is obtained.
Next step is laying the felt and then the artificial turf.
The process after the laying of the felt is to lay artificial turf on the felt. The artificial turf is bonded with the additional parts of the carpet by laying the seaming tape (creeping glue, adhesive mixture seaming tape at the junction of the two parts). A chemical substance that makes it resistant to moisture, water and most chemicals, which is called polyurethane is used as an adhesive. And then the field lines are carefully drawn, high quality silica sand is poured and brushed with a brushing machine.
