Innovative Hybrid Turf Systems
Natural grass grows by up to one centimeter every year due to the accumulation of dead leaves between the plants. This means that the plastic fibers have too little fiber overhang. To ensure a reliably functioning system, this part should be removed annually. For this purpose, the superficial felt is removed from the system with a Koro Fieldtopmaker and a special shaft. These special knives ensure that the plastic fibers are not damaged during this work.
Hybrid turf systems are sensitive high-tech products that function optimally when all factors are set appropriately. To ensure this, hybrid grass systems must undergo an annual renovation. Depending on the requirements, sand or a turf-bearing layer is then applied in sufficient thickness and levelled. Finally, the pitch is seeded and can be played on again after about eight weeks. We as Reform Sports carry out all maintenance measures tailored to the actual conditions in order to maximize the lifespan of the hybrid turf system.

Artificial Turf Installation Process
- The artificial turf is delivered to the construction site in strips four meters wide and around 70 meters long.
- The three base lines (two outer goal lines and the middle line) are tufted into the lanes.
- Installation starts with rolling out the outer goal line, aligned with corner flag sleeves and goal sleeves.
- Green panels are laid out up to the center line.
- Panels are connected with seam tape and adhesive, ensuring no direct connection with the elastic layer.
- Strips are pressed into adhesive and fixed with continuous rolling.
- Finally, playing field lines (white, blue, or yellow) are inserted based on field requirements.
Color Options for Field Lines
| Line Color | Usage |
|---|---|
| White | Standard football and hockey fields |
| Blue | Youth lines |
| Yellow | Rarely used today |
Costs of Hybrid Turf Field Construction
When building artificial turf pitches, the construction costs are often compared with the costs of building a natural turf pitch. In these comparisons, maintenance costs must always be included.
Cost and Longevity Comparison
| Type of Pitch | Lifespan | Usability per Year | Maintenance Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Artificial Turf | 12-15 years | 2,000–2,400 hours | Low |
| Natural Turf | Approx. 8 years | ~1,000 hours | High |
The investment costs for artificial turf are higher, but maintenance is lower compared to natural turf. Artificial turf also allows play throughout the year without damaging the surface. When planning, recycling costs should be integrated from the beginning.
Choosing the Right Granules
- SBR Recyclate: Increasingly criticized, not recommended for new projects.
- EPDM Granules: More expensive but optimized for artificial turf.
- TPE Granules: Durable and tailored to the system.
- Cork Infill: Eco-friendly but higher cost.
Advantages of an Artificial Grass Pitch
- Longer service life compared to natural grass pitches
- Consistent playability even in adverse weather (rain, snow, etc.)
- Less maintenance required compared to natural grass
- Allows multiple teams to use the field without damaging the surface
Artificial turf offers practical benefits: no watering, mowing, or fertilization required. It saves on water and electricity, making it environmentally friendly. The surface remains green, durable, and mud-free, even after heavy rain. This ensures playability all year round, in all weather conditions.
Custom Markings and Design Options
To complete the playing field, we at Reform Sports can immediately apply the right lines for you. For this we use white artificial turf, which we integrate into the playing field according to a careful laying plan. Choose the right lines for a football or hockey field or have lines made for a multifunctional sports field. It is even possible to color the playing field in different shades for visual effect. For larger sports fields, a cutting effect in the lawn can also be created for a more professional look.
