Football pitch construction is one of the core areas of expertise for Reform Sports Systems, one of Turkey’s leading companies in the industry. The company operates across 7 different regions worldwide. In addition to building football pitches, Reform Sports also constructs FIFA-approved artificial turf football fields, IAAF-certified athletics tracks, ITF-approved tennis courts, and multi-sports complexes, representing Turkey as a globally recognised brand.
Reform Sports adheres to quality as its main principle and works with maximum precision thanks to its experienced technical team. The majority of materials used in the construction of sports facilities are produced in the company’s own factory located in Çorlu. This allows Reform Sports to offer more competitive prices without relying on intermediaries. Football pitch construction is a highly specialised process. Therefore, before starting any project, a flawless ground survey must be carried out, followed by the preparation of a site-specific report and structural analysis, which will serve as the basis for the main plan and cost estimation.
Some companies make the mistake of using the same template for different projects. However, this is a major error. For example, a football pitch designed for Şanlıurfa cannot be applied in a region like Ağrı with a completely different climate and soil conditions. Factors such as climate characteristics, vegetation, soil type, precipitation levels, and fault lines must be carefully analysed. The selection of materials should also be based on these calculations.
The construction stages of a football pitch are as follows:
- Planning stage
- Foundation excavation stage
- Steel frame installation stage
- Lighting installation stage
- Netting installation stage
- Gravel layering stage
- Artificial turf installation stage
What Are the Stages of Football Pitch Construction?

Football Pitch Construction
Planning Stage
The first step in the construction of a football pitch is to transfer the coordinates of the designated area into the project and create a digital field plan. This digital planning offers significant advantages in terms of both visual presentation and engineering calculations. The prepared plan is presented to the investor for approval. After approval, site layout operations are carried out to bring the pitch to the zero elevation point. If necessary, compaction is done using a roller.
Beam Excavation
Beam excavation is carried out around the perimeter of the pitch. Afterward, reinforcement is applied using stirrups, and formwork is placed. Anchor pipes are positioned inside the forms, aligned with the measurements of the wire fence system. Then, BS20 class concrete with high compressive strength is poured and left to cure. Once the concrete has fully set, the formwork is removed to complete this stage.
Skeleton Assembly
Vertical connections are mounted onto the anchored pipes to construct the main framework. Horizontal beams are welded to the verticals according to project specifications. Then, the wire mesh fencing is installed. Steel ropes are used to ensure tension and durability. At this stage, a service gate is also integrated to control entry and exit. The steel components are typically painted in dark green tones to achieve aesthetic harmony.
Lighting
According to the lighting plan established during the planning stage, lighting poles are erected at designated positions around the field. It is recommended to use high-performance and energy-efficient systems, especially for evening matches, to avoid poor visibility. Once the stadium lighting installation is complete, electrical wiring is laid discreetly so no cables remain visible. All electrical systems are weatherproofed against rain and harsh environmental conditions. If desired, a scoreboard can also be installed during this stage. Additionally, to prevent game interruptions during power outages, strong backup generators are recommended to maintain consistent power and protect sensitive lighting equipment.

Net Installation
Wire fences and net systems are installed around the football pitch. Wire mesh is applied up to a certain height, while upper sections are enclosed with nets to prevent the ball from exiting the field. Net systems with a height of over 5 meters, including ceiling nets, are highly recommended.
Gravel Layering
After leveling the field base, a 20 cm thick layer of 3rd-grade gravel is spread and compacted using a roller. Then, a 10 cm thick 1st-grade gravel layer is applied. The surface is leveled by experts to prevent undulation—a process known as base regulation or laser grading.
Synthetic Turf Carpet Installation
Following the leveling process, a geotextile layer is laid down, and then synthetic turf is installed. After marking the game lines, sand and granule infill is applied to finalize the pitch for use.
